  1. Table shows the best model results for the BPI worst pain scores and FACT-P trial outcome index. We used linear mixed models with random effects for the slope and intercept, with a specified compound symmetric correlation structure to account for autocorrelation of serial measures within patients. For each outcome, we examined whether scores differed over time by arm using a treatment by time interaction (both linear and quadratic); if no interaction as present, we modeled time as both linear and quadratic. Best model fit was determined as shown in Additional file 1: Table S1
